Environmental Impact Assessment Report of Baihetan Hydropower Station Passed Examination

On 28-30 August 2014, a technical appraisal meeting for Environmental Impact Assessment Report of Baihetan Hydropower Station on Jinsha River was held by Environmental Engineering Assessment Center under Ministry of Environmental Protection in Beijing.

Before the meeting, related leaders and experts from Ministry of Environmental Protection went to the project site for investigation twice. During the meeting, Powerchina Huadong reported in detail the contents of the Environmental Impact Assessment Report(EIA Report). The experts and representatives present at the meeting made lively discussions and careful appraisal for the EIA Report. They reached the following conclusion: the EIA Report has complete contents and is credible; on the premise that various environmental protection measures are effectively implemented, the environmental impacts resulting from the construction of the project can be accepted on the whole; and construction of the project is feasible.

Due to the huge construction scale of Baihetan Hydropower Project, the assessment of environment impacts is complex. Since the environmental impact assessment was launched in 2005, Powerchina Huadong, in association with many domestic scientific research units, has completed considerable survey and analysis and special studies, of which the special studies on water environmental, terrestrial ecosystem and aquatic ecosystem have passed technical reviews.
