River Closure Fulfilled for Lower Se San 2 Hydropower Project

At 9:02 am, Jan. 7, 2015, river closure was fulfilled successfully for Lower Se San 2 Hydropower Project, the largest hydropower project under construction in Cambodia. Powerchina Huadong undertakes engineering investigation and design for the project.

The project is located on the main stream of the Se San River within the Se San region of Stung Treng Province, the Kingdom of Cambodia. With an installed capacity of 400MW, average annual energy output of 1.97 billion kWh, and a total investment of about USD 780 million, it is presently the largest hydropower project under construction in Cambodia. Its commercial operation will provide strong support for the energy development strategy, power supply structure of the electric power system, and ecological environmental protection of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and make great contributions to accelerating the hydropower resources development in Mekong River basin and promoting the economic and social development of Stung Treng Region.
