Feasibility Study Report (Dam) of Baihetan HPP Passed Review

From 21 to 23 June 2016, a review meeting for Feasibility Study Report (Dam) of Baihetan Hydropower Project on the Jinsha River was held in Beijing by Hydropower and Water Resource Planning and Design General Institute. The Report prepared by Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited (PowerChina Huadong) successfully passed review, indicating that Baihetan HPP has been approaching its examination and approval.

Baihetan Hydropower Station is the second of four cascades along the lower reaches of the Jinsha River, with a total installed capacity of 16000MW and mean annual energy output of 62.521 billion kWh, second only to those of the Three Gorges Project in the world. PowerChina Huadong conducted the feasibility study in 2004 and has made unremitting efforts in a lot of investigation, tests, design and research for the past 12 years. PowerChina Huadong solved a series of major technical problems such as super-high arch dam design under complicated geological and topographical conditions, huge flood discharge and energy dissipation in narrow valley with high head, earthquake resistance and prevention within high seismic intensity area, long span and giant underground caverns design, application of 1000MW hydropower generating units and governance of large debris flow. In addition, the Feasibility Study Report (Dam) prepared by PowerChina Huadong is composed of 13 chapters and attached with 7 volumes of drawings and 71 special reports.
