On June 28, 2016, the last 1m excavation of upper tunnel face at shallow-buried excavation section in Civil Engineering I Bid for Zizhi Tunnel marked that the whole line of Zizhi Tunnel designed by Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited, the longest city tunnel in China, was completely put into use.
As one of the key infrastructure projects for G20 Summit in Hangzhou, the construction of Zizhi Tunnel Project took more than 1110 days with the joint efforts of over 20 participating units; the completion of the Project laid a solid foundation for its scheduled opening to traffic before G20 Summit.
Composed of three super long tunnels, the Zizhi Tunnel is about 14.4km long in total, starting from Zhipu Road in the south and ending at Zijingang Road in the north. It is the westmost longitudinal line of the “Three Longitudinal and Five Transverse” urban expressway network in Hangzhou. After its completion and opening to traffic, the Zizhi Tunnel will serve as a vital north-south rapid transit for the western region of Hangzhou and play an important role in improving the Hangzhou urban traffic network, diverging traffic volume and relieving traffic pressure around scenic spots. Subsequently, Powerchina Huadong will continue to provide on-site technical services and make contribution to G20 Summit.
