On July 26, the largest bulb tubular unit in China, the first unit (Unit 1) of Shaping 2 Hydropower Station on the Dadu River for which Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited undertakes investigation and design, was successfully put into operation.

Shaping 2 Hydropower Station is located at the junction of Ebian Yi Autonomous County and the Jinkouhe in Leshan City, Sichuan Province. Downstream of Shaping Hydropower Station and upstream of Gongzui Hydropower Station, it is the 20^th cascade hydropower station among the total 22 cascade hydropower stations planned on the Dadu River. With a total installed capacity of 348MW, the power station is equipped with six 58MW bulb tubular units, the unit capacity of which is the largest in China presently.

The bulb tubular unit, featured by compact structure, good stability and high efficiency, is suitable for the low-head large and medium-sized hydropower stations. With a relatively small reservoir storage capacity and only daily regulation capability, Shaping 2 Hydropower Station is developed mainly for power generation and supplying power to Sichuan Power Grid on the basis of meeting the load demand of Leshan Region.
