On the morning of July 2, 2012, a grand opening ceremony was held for Jiubao Bridge - known as the most beautiful bridge over the Qiantang River - and its south and north connection line projects. Huang Kunmin, member of CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, secretary of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and director-general of the Standing Committee of Hangzhou People’s Congress, announced the opening of the Bridge. Yang Xubiao, member of CPC Hangzhou Municipal Committee and executive vice mayor, delivered a speech. Guo Zhong, president of Traffic and Municipal Engineering Institute of HydroChina Huadong, attended the ceremony.
As an important cross-river node of the most eastern “longitudinal road” of the “three longitudinal roads and five transverse roads” expressway network system of Hangzhou city master plan, Jiubao Bridge links Linping, Xiasha and Xiaoshan. Through the north and south connection line projects, it respectively connects Haining Dongxi Avenue, Hangzhou-Pudong Expressway, Hangzhou-Ningbo Expressway and Xiaoshan Airport Expressway, and thus becomes an important channel to connect the outside in the eastern Hangzhou and the central part of Xiaoshan District. As of zero o’clock of July 6, the temporary service roads of Jiubao Bridge, Donghu Elevated Road (North Connection Line of Jiubao Bridge) and South Connection Line of Jiubao Bridge would be put into trial operation.
Jiubao Bridge is the first large-scale cross-river bridge project in China that employs the composite structure for the whole bridge. It is totally 1855m long, two-way six-lane. The bridge is 18m above the ground and the approach bridges at both ends are in elevated form, called “connection lines”. The North Connection Line starts from the north end of Jiubao Bridge and all the way spans Yangjiang Avenue, East Genshan Road, Jiuqiao Road, Jiuhen Road and Jiusha Avenue. With a total investment of around 270 million Yuan, construction of the project was started on December 9, 2010. Till now, the North Connection line has basically been completed. The South Connection Line with a total length of 6.81km starts from Binjiang No.1 Road on the south bank of Qiantang River in the north and reaches the south of Xiaoshan Airport Expressway in the south. It has alternative interchanges in Binjiang No.2 road and Xiaoshan Airport Expressway and four pairs of ramps as well. With a total investment of 3.67 billion Yuan, construction of the project was officially commenced on Sept. 7, 2011. So far, the construction of the first pair of ramps at the landing section of the main elevated bridge has been completed.
Both of the South and North Connection Lines of Jiubao Bridge were designed by HydroChina Huadong. The contracting of this project has adequately reflected HydroChina Huadong’s multi-specialized and integrated capabilities and brand in the field of traffic and municipal works.
