Doctor Peng Peng, subject to the appraisal of the expert panel, has successfully finished his training at the HydroChina Huadong Post-Doctoral Scientific Research Workstation. He is the second post-doctorin 2012 and also the ninth having successfully completed his training at the Workstation ever since its establishment in 2006.
Taking the landslide masses of Majidian, Tiansan and Shangtian towns at the Kala Hydropower Project as his research objects, Doctor Peng systematically studied their geological conditions, deformation and failure features, formation mechanism and stability by way of field survey, numerical simulation, theoretical analysis and multiple experiments. The expert panel commented that his research results will provide a new technology for the comprehensive analysis of the deformation features of the landslide masses, the forecasting of landslides, the identification of the landslide status pattern, the variation of engineering properties and the numerical analysis of disasters. And the read-write program for the complicated topographic model developed based on the FLAC3D modeling method can greatly improve the modeling efficiency of similar projects. Doctor Peng is the import talent from Hohai University for the purposes of Hydrochina Huadong 2010 postdoctoral research project, Survey Technology and Analytic Study on the Engineering Characteristics of Landslide Mass of Hydropower Projects. Shan Zhigang, deputy chief engineer of HydroChina Huadong, and Zhou Chuangbing, vice president of Wuhan University, were his supervisors. During the two-year research, Doctor Peng published six academic papers (including one for SCI/EI retrieval and two for EI retrieval) and applied for nine patents, including four patents of invention.
Since its establishment with the approval of the Ministry of Personnel in 2006, HydroChina Huadong Postdoctoral Scientific Research Workstation has recruited twenty-one post-doctors, among which twelve are still conducting research at the station, six remain to work at HydroChina Huadong after having finished their training, and three teach at Northeastern University, Wuhan University and Sichuan University respectively. In 2009, the workstation was awarded the honorable title of “Zhejiang Provincial Excellent Post-Doctoral Scientific Research Workstation”. It has established a combined training mechanism with many research institutes and universities nationwide, such as China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR), Institute of Rock and Soil Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IRSM CAS), Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NIGLAS), Wuhan University, Zhejiang University, Ocean University of China, Hohai University, Dalian University of Technology, Fuzhou University, and Chengdu University of Technology, etc. The doctors at the station have repeatedlybeen supported by the following grants: the second-class grant for General Program of China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, the State Key Laboratory open funds from the Chinese Academy of Science and Chengdu University of Technology, and the grant for excellent post-doctoral scientific research projects of Zhejiang Province. The research projects have ranked among the national top technical field.
