The China-aided Aba Samuel Hydropower Project in Ethiopia is one of the projects based on the eight new measures for China-Africa cooperation and is also the first China-aided project implemented by the Ministry of Commerce on EPC contracting basis. It is envisaged to restore the power generation function of the power station by utilizing such existing facilities as the dam and powerhouse, rehabilitating the original water conveyance system, and installing four turbine-generator units with a total installed capacity of 6.6MW. Entrusted by the Ministry of Commerce, Hydrochina Huadong completed the feasibility investigation, professional survey and preliminary design in 2011 and 2012 respectively. The smooth convocation of the review meeting, as an important milestone node for EPC-based implementation of the project, has created prerequisites for the follow-up work of the project.
