On May 8, 2012, a ceremonious commencement ceremony was held for construction of Shaping II Hydropower Station on the Dadu River, one of the major hydropower projects in Western Development. This marks the formal construction commencement of the station with the approval of the state. As the investigation and design firm of the station, Mr. Wang Yan, vice president of HYDROCHINA HUADONG, and related personnel of the project department attended the celebration.

Shaping II Hydropower Station is located at the junction of Ebian Yi Autonomous County and Jinkouhe District in Leshan City, Sichuan Province. There are totally 22 cascade hydropower developments on the main stream of the Dadu River, and Shaping II is the second stage project of the 20^th cascade development. The project aims at power generation and run-of-the-river development is adopted. The complex is composed of a dam, fishway and powerhouse. The reservoir has a normal pool level of 554m and a total storage capacity of 20.84 million m³. The powerhouse is equipped with six 58MW bulb tubular turbine-generator units and the unit capacity of this kind presently ranks first in China. The station has a total installed capacity of 348MW and the total construction period is 79 months. The first unit is scheduled to be put into operation in 2016.
