Oman Power and Water Purchasing Company (OPWP) completed internal approval and officially confirmed that the Oman IBRI 607MW solar power project enter the commercial operation on August 6, 2021. The project, starting its construction on March 31, 2020, has an installed capacity of 607MWp and annual power output of 1598 GWh, which can provide the annual electricity consumption for 33 thousand local households and reduce carbon emissions by 800 thousand tons per year. The project is of great significance for diversifying the local energy structure, improving the power regulation capacity during peak periods, as well as alleviating the power shortage during the peak periods in Muscat and the northern region of Oman.
Project Site
Under such harsh natural environment and complicated topographic and geological conditions in Oman, HDEC team dares to take the lead and work tirelessly to create a number of world records that first applied numerous technologies at a large scale. As the first photovoltaic project using cleaning robot in the world, the project solves the problem of adaptation design of photovoltaic tracking system and automatic cleaning system for the first time and enables the mutual coordination between the robot and tracking bracket. Therefore, the efficiency of photovoltaic power generation is greatly improved, and the cost of operation and maintenance is reduced accordingly.
At the beginning of 2020, the construction of booster stations and photovoltaic sites was started. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, most of flights were blocked here, manufacturing was suspended, and the border of Oman was closed for half a year, so bulk of materials cannot be delivered on time. In this situation, HDEC team made full use of every minute to coordinate all aspects of manpower, equipment and other construction resources in the Middle East, and organized eleven construction teams to enter the field successively with the number of personnel reached 2700 during the peak period, which provides a solid guarantee for the construction of the project and ensures the steady work progress. The equipment procurement involves suppliers from eleven countries or regions, including China, Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United States and Singapore. The project participants come from 23 countries or regions, of which 72% of HDEC team are from other countries with different cultural backgrounds and knowledge structures. They work together, learn from each other, and eventually contribute wisdom to the timely commissioning of the project.
The smooth commercial operation of the project is inseparable from the full support of the relevant departments of HDEC. The whole project team would like to express heartfelt thanks to the leaders and functional departments at all levels for their help and support during the whole process of the project. We will continue to work hard to obtain the temporary acceptance certificate as soon as possible so as to draw a successful full stop for the project.
