Kainji Hydropower Station is the largest water conservancy project in Nigeria. It was built from 1960s with a total installed capacity of 760MW. In 2013, Mainstream obtained the 25-year concession right of Kainji Hydropower Station and its downstream Jebba Hydropower Station (total installed capacity of 578MW). It is currently the most influential hydropower operator in Nigeria.

It is the second time that HDEC successfully signed contracts of the Kainji Hydropower Station, after signing the Unit 5, 6 and 12 reconstruction contract in 2011. Defeating a series of well-known hydropower contractors in Europe and America in bidding process, HDEC consolidated its leading position in Nigeria’s power energy sector and demonstrated the company’s comprehensive competitiveness in the local power market. It is an essentially important milestone that we set in the market development in Nigeria.
