On 25 April, the ground-breaking ceremony of Monsoon Wind Power Project is held in Vientiane, the capital city of Laos. Saleumxay, the Vice Prime Minister of Laos, Peck, the CEO of IES, Yin Shiji, the Vice President of HDEC and Yang Jian, the assistant of POWERCHINA International and the Vice President of Asia-Pacific Region present the ground-breaking ceremony.
Phosay Sayasone, the Minister of Energy and Mine ministry of Laos, gives a speech to show appreciation to parties who takes part in this project. He hopes that Monsoon project could provide new energy for the development of the economy and electricity in Laos, therefore, ministries and departments of Laos, Phosay says, need to provide supports.
Yang Jian, the Vice President of Asia-Pacific Region of POWERCHINA International appreciates the supports of Laos’s government and the project owner. He further claims that POWERCHINA will make Monsoon project become a benchmarking project in the area of Southeast Asia renewable energy, and push the construction of “One Belt and Road” Iniciative.
The scope of the project includes a 600MW wind power farm, 5 booster stations and 500kV transmission lines and so on. It is the first wind power project in Laos, and also is the first wind power project with the biggest single wind turbine of Southeast Asia. In addition, it is also the first renewable energy project in Asia to transport power by crossing boarder and the biggest wind power project with single wind turbine which is under construction by Chinese enterprise.
ADB, as one of the main contributors raise a claim for environmental protection and social influence. As the project team also faces many difficulties and challenges, the project team will remember the spirit of “Responsibility, Efficiency, Excellence” to complete this project.
