Completion of 133 WTGs Installation at Laos 600MW Monsoon Wind Power Project
Date:2025-04-09

At 18:00 on April 8, 2025, local time, 133 WTGs Installation at Laos 600MW Monsoon wind power project contracted by HDEC was completed with the precise alignment of the third blade of turbine WA419 and the hub. The successful completion marks another significant step toward achieving the goal of full-capacity grid-connected power generation for the first wind power project in Laos.

Laos 600MW Monsoon wind power project is located in the border area between Sekong Province and Attapeu Province in southern Laos. This area boasts abundant wind resources with a six-month rainy season annually. With the site elevation ranging approximately 1,000–2,200 meters above sea level across rugged terrain, the transportation and hoisting of heavy wind turbine equipment posed severe challenges.

The project department constructed three temporary storage yards in a terraced configuration to address site terrain constraints and secondary transportation requirements for machinery with large-sized components. Equipped with 27 specialized vehicles to meet peak demand for transporting machinery with large-sized components, providing critical support for wind turbine hoisting.

During construction, the project team persevered through challenging rainy, gale, and fog-prone seasons. Through meticulously planning wind turbine transportation and hoisting schemes, innovatively implementing BIM digital simulation technology, precisely predicting risks, and optimizing work sequences, they adopted a turbine-specific methodology and enhanced multi-stakeholder coordination and scientific resource allocation before construction. 133 WTGs installation was successfully and safely completed with high-quality over 18 months, establishing a technical benchmark for mountainous wind power generation construction in Southeast Asia.

The project has achieved 96% overall progress to date. 66 generating units in Blocks I and II had completed grid-connection testing and a 72-hour operation reliability on Vietnam’s national grid on April 2.

Upholding the corporate ethos of “Responsibility, Efficiency, Excellence” of HDEC, the project team remains focused on achieving full-capacity grid connection ahead of schedule. This endeavor will establish a benchmark mountainous wind power project in Laos, injecting robust impetus for the carbon neutrality goal under the Belt and Road Initiative framework.
