On May 29, 2025, local time, Egypt Amunet 500MW Wind Power Project constructed by HDEC, successfully completed the grid test and put into commercial operation ahead of schedule under the joint witness of EETC (Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co), AMEA Power (owner), COWI (supervisory unit), and other parties involved in the construction, which marked the full completion and commission of the project, having injected important kinetic energy for the optimization of energy structure and green transformation in Egypt.
Egypt Amunet 500MW Wind Power Project is located about 300 kilometers southeast of Cairo, Egypt, about 8 kilometers north of Ras Gharib. The project has a total installed capacity of 500MW, with 77 EN171-6.5MW wind turbine generators. The scope of the project includes the design, procurement, construction, and commissioning of wind turbines and their foundations, hoisting platforms, power collection lines, on-site roads, wind measurement towers, and 33/220kV substations. As the first wind power project undertaken by HDEC in Egypt, its completion has laid a solid foundation for our institute’s expansion in the new energy sector of Egypt.
Throughout the project development phase, the project team advanced the integration of multiple intelligence-based solutions into contract execution processes to drive operational excellence. In response to on-site meteorological conditions, the project integrated meteorological data analytics with logistics monitoring systems to strategically schedule construction work windows, efficiently execute critical hoisting operations, and orchestrate equipment mobilization sequences. In the realm of safety management, the project leveraged an intelligence-based platform to achieve real-time risk identification and active intervention. Concurrently, biodiversity baseline studies are conducted in collaboration with third-party consultants to formulate ecological mitigation protocols. These measures ensure full compliance with the ongoing audit requirements stipulated by the project financing bank, thereby securing uninterrupted advancement momentum.
Leveraging the project’s distinctive engineering characteristics, the project team advanced the formulation of specialized excellence enhancement protocols and systematically implemented quality optimization initiatives. These efforts culminated in the project being awarded the Science and Technology Progress Prize by the All-China Environment Federation and as a pioneering pilot project in the inaugural ESG Assessment Program for Electric Power Engineering Projects by the China Electric Power Construction Association. Concurrently, the project achieved benchmark status through its intelligent construction site implementation, securing recognition as an Exemplary Five-Star Intelligent Site Construction Model Project within the power construction sector.
With unwavering commitment forged through endeavors, the project team has embodied the corporate ethos of “Responsibility, Efficiency, Excellence”. The project achieved commercial operation ahead of the contractual milestone and commendation from the owner. Building upon this benchmark achievement, the team will sum up management methodologies and technical innovations into standardized protocols, propelling quality enhancement initiatives to new heights. Currently in the project closeout phase, all personnel are vigorously driving toward substantial completion and handover to ensure the successful culmination of project deliverables.
